I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, then.

The first novel I wrote was a vampire novel, set in the mid-6th century.
From time to time I think about pulling it out, giving it a polish, and
seeing if there's anything salvageable in it.

I've enjoyed vampire stories in the past. I used to like Anne Rice's work,
but I think she jumped the shark with the Lestat novels with TALE OF THE
BODY THIEF. I -really- wanted to like MNENOCH THE DEVIL, since PARADISE
LOST is one of my favorite books--Lucifer as the ultimate hero--but it just
pissed me off endlessly.

Tom Hollard wrote a couple of kick-ass vampire novels. LORD OF THE DEAD
(published in England as THE VAMPYRE) posits a secret history of Lord
Byron. Dark and disturbing.

One of my favorites is Brian Stableford's THE EMPIRE OF FEAR. What if
Genghis Khan was a vampire? Charlemagne? Richard the Lion-Heart? What if
Europe's ruling families were immortal vampires? Damned interesting.

For a fun ride, P.N. Elrod's VAMPIRE FILES series is entertaining. A
vampire is a 1930s hard-boiled detective.

So, yeah, I read vampire fiction. And I understand those that don't.

We have, perhaps, come far enough to recognize the World of Pooh as a
mythical world, equal in status to those other mythical worlds: Eden,
the Golden World, the Realm of Logres, Shambhala. It is not only a
mythical world but also a mystical world, and like all such mystical
worlds, the Way is both through and to them. The journey to them is
itself an exploration of them.
