As long as you only use caustic when you refigure. If you intend to only
recoat then you should definitely use something else.

If you do want to take it off before, remember that you are going to be
doing the surface over again so any minor etching of the surface by the
chemical used for a few minutes on the coating won't hurt things enough over
the period of time that it is on the glass.  Surface roughness of the basic
CeO surface is on the order or less of the roughness that you will obtain
from the chemical on the Pyrex surface. Bob May
