In the spirit of 'if I wanted to get to there, I wouldn't start from
here' frankly the inbuilt sound on a Pi is awful

I had great success with a hifiberry audio DAC hat and there are some
that even have small power amplifiers

Just add passive loudspeakers..

Or use e.g.
https://thepihut.com/collections/hifiberry/products/hifiberry-dac-zero
(which is what I have) to a normal set of PC speakers using a phono plug
to 3.5mm jack adapter.
