Former Deputy Interior Secretary J. Steven Griles has agreed to admit lying
to the U.S. Senate about dealing with lobbyist Jack Abramoff, reports say.

   Griles said he would plead guilty to a felony for testifying falsely
before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on Nov. 2, 2005, and during an
earlier deposition with panel investigators, the Washington Post said
Friday.


   Griles reportedly told the committee that "there was no special
relationship for Mr. Abramoff in my office. It never did exist."


But, he later admitted that he had frequent contact with Abramoff through
Italia Federici, the founder of a conservative environmental group with
close ties to former Interior Secretary Gale Norton.


Griles, 59, was the 10th person, and the second high-level Bush
administration official, to face criminal charges in the Abramoff
investigation.
