And even then, will you be able to use them to connect to anything _but_
some ISPs?  Will they be able to connect to other modems via the PSTN as
well?

We're not exactly holding our breath around here .. with the dismemberment
of our national communications infrastructure currently mooted, this last
round of exchange upgrades may be as good as it ever gets for rural
Australia.
