-> I heard a story, related second hand but heard on television
-> recently, that there's a new trojan program being downloaded from
-> Internet web sites. If I can remember this correctly, it's supposed
-> to be a small .EXE program, and is usually found on pornographic web
-> sites. The distributor explains it's supposed to be used to display
-> pornographic images or some such.
-> However .. when you download and execute it, it supposedly
-> reconnects you with a _very_ expensive overseas number (like in
-> Slobovia or some such place), a 900- equivalent that costs you many
-> dollars a minute .. _and_ you can't tell your modem disconnected
-> from your Internet service and redialed for some reason .. _and_ it
-> supposedly leaves your modem still connected to this expensive
-> number even if you shut off your computer (or maybe just Internet
-> connect software). _And_ your phone company won't li whining
-> because it was _your_ system that did the dialing.
-> Anyone hear anything else about this? Right now I consider it rumor
-> (at best).
David,
The story ran on last Friday's nights "Dateline". Having strong ties to
"Dateline" and NBC, I consider this "rumor" to be true and accurate...
