 Several books written about Einstein also refer to them knowing each other 
in which case its hard to imagine that they did not at least exchange ideas 
on the subject.
 As to whether he actually worked on the project outside of his mind? don't 
know.
 I now have access to the Physics echo perhaps we could go there as I am sure 
we are out of line here.
