GE-> QuickBasic 4.5 - Commercial, but no longer sold by M$oft.
  Some dealers still have copies available for sale. I believe Msoft
  may still supply copies to a few selected dealers.
 GE-> QBasic - Free (with DOS) smaller version of Quickbasic.
  Been a long time since I fooled with Qbasic but I believe you can
  create and run a basic program with Qbasic but it does not include the
  compiler needed to create the .exe file.
  What I really liked (and still do) about QuickBasic 4.5 is that you can
  create a regular basic program, line numbers and all, and then compile
  it to an .exe file with QB4.5.
