If gun control were REALLY about crime, you'd be right.
Unfortunately, that's only the excuse. The actual reason is that
gun owners are a vocal minority that's standing in the way
of the statists. Gun shows contribute nada to street crime,
but their great political meaning places and 99 percent of
the people there are anti-statist, anti-government utopian.
They can be neutralized by criminalizing them and their guns.
