Very true.  When I first setup my BBS back in 1984, it was because I wanted
it for myself.  It was a fringe benefit that others enjoyed it as much as I
did - and took part in it.  Just like when I would write mods for the BBS. 
They were done because I wanted some feature, option, or whatever on my
BBS.   It was a bonus to be able to share it with others that might want
the same thing.
