I gave my 12.5" mirror to a buddy who works in a cleanroom for
cleaning. He spent an hour under a fume hood carefully cleaning with
various solvents and Q-tip.  It came out beautifully.

He mentioned that next time, I might just try a normal dish washing machine
with jet-dry or some similar surfactant.  So I popped a grungy old 8"
mirror in the dish washer and tried it; no hot water and no hot dry.

The result;  not a bit of metal remains.   Now I will send it out for
recoating and get a perfectly clean surface back from the coaters.
