subject: A Terminal and a Manual

I have been using Linux desktops for over five years. But I would really like
to learn more. I want a deeper appreciation and understanding of the system. I
remember the old days when one would buy a computer (Tandy, Comadore, Atari
800) and it came with a thick manual. That's all you had, a computer, a manual
and a terminal prompt. It was a world of exploration and discovery.

So my question is this. Does any one have a suggestion of a book that will
provide the same experience in learning to use Debian Linux?
