Hello Bob.... -=> Quoting Bob Ackley to Peter Coggon <=- BA> Replying to a message of PETER COGGON to ROB MCCART: BA> A similar situation exists down here in the US, depending on which BA> poll one believes either half or 2/3 of the eligible voters don't BA> bother. The problem with what I found was 60 to 70 % is the silent majority that will allow themselves to be led without doing a darn thing, and I am one of them, due to just having NO WHERE to turn to for options. Australia they have to all vote... yet here no. BA> One way to fix that would be to either add a "none of these BA> candidates" option or a "yes/no" option for each candidate. That way BA> voters could vote *against* candidates, under the current system BA> (here) the only way to do that is to vote *for* his/her opponent - and BA> if the opponent is also unacceptable there's no third option. But the BA> professional politicians and bureaucrooks don't *want* that to happen, BA> so it won't. Bob... we have what is called a referendum coming with the election. It is a chance to change the current "First-Past-The-Post" to something being tried in other countrys called "Mixed Member Proportional". They even gave me a website to look at called www.YourBigDecision.ca Never been there yet, as I have watched all the information shows on TV about it, and I have mixed questions about it all with the bottomline being extra representatives at the taxpayers for being in government. I have other problems too as expressed, and as yet no replys from the sources about my questions. So here I sit.... now two votes this October 10th.,2007 One for government and one for the political system. I happen to know two out of the three candidates in my area personally so I might this year be able to bring myself to vote. Then I have to read their party platform and thats where I feel there should also be a way to recall a rep with he promises to do something but never does within the alloted time. I am sick of voting for candidates who forget who put them there, as they then obey the party platform and Bay Street that paid them money for their campaigns. I am not a true Liberal or Conserative or NDP or Green anything but just a retired person who'd like to see the candidate elected in this area...work for us! Ok his party platform but work for us first, and tell the party or have all candidates tell partys that this is the way it has to be.... That might ensure proper platforms...who knows. Demcracy is certainly a fragile instrument.... eeeech! ttfn Peter ...
