Larry,

I've got a fairly extensive electronics reference catalogue that I looked
through from a local (Washington, DC) electronics wholesaler. They've got
3mm, 5mm, 8mm and 12mm, red, orange, yellow and green, clear yellow, clear
and diffused green, bright red, diffused red, clear jewel red, clear green
jewel, red and green high-intensity, soft red, diffused orange, diffused
yellow, blinking LEDs, high-efficiency LEDs, bi-color, and tri-color,
rectangular, square, and round, but no clear ones. They may indeed make
them, but I would suggest that you consider something called a
grain-of-wheat lamp which emits a high-intensity white light and it is
quite small. As a matter of fact, University Optics puts these things on
their Mirr-O-Test Foucault testers and they're powered by small batteries.
