Why don't you do the same thing you described (with macros)? Have a key 
insert a printer control string which is block marked, send that blocked text 
to the printer, then delete it. I used to have a batch file that sent control 
codes to the printer for various things but these days as you said I just use 
a word processor.
You could have a key insert the control string and leave it at the relevant 
place in the document for next time.
