And so it came to pass, on 03-27-97 13:42,
that Bonnie Goodwin spake unto Gregory Gerasimenko:
->> Some of the amps are phase inverting, some are not phase inverting.
->> How loudspeakers must be connected to phase-inverting amp? Should
->> "live" (red) wire of loudspeaker go to "ground" (black) terminal of
->> amp, or everything should be connected straight?
BG> If you want to be absolutely, completely satisfied that you are in
BG> phase EVERYWHERE until you get to the speakers. then go ahead..
BG> but, a little secret here, as long as both channels are the same
BG> phase, it really doesn't matter which way you hook up the speakers
BG> as long as you pick the same way for each speaker.
Well... SOME people can tell the difference, especially with vocal parts
(spoken, in particular), whether the speakers (or even *a* speaker) are in
"proper" positive phase. I've noticed a slight difference on some material,
in the right circumstances (a well-treated control room with proper
monitoring).
Of course, you can't always trust the color of the wiring. JBL speakers are
well known for being color-coded "backward".
