AT> Could someone explain a few things to me?? Probably. AT> What are Bler's?? (Bl)ock (Er)rors. Under normal (ie low) error rates, the same as bit errors. AT> And how fast do modems retrain?? Of the order 10 seconds, if the line's good. Of the order 10 days if it's not. AT> I'm online at Alpha Med AT> Link Line 4 connected at 33600.. Quitcher complaining, lucky dog... :-) AT> I did an ATI6 and I was connected at AT> 31k2.. then as fast as I could type I did an ati6 again and got 33k6?? Do AT> they retrain that fast?? No - that was a "Fall Forward". The modems agree that the line's gotten better, and also agree that the equalization settings in current use are fine - all they do is just switch speeds, which can happen in a few milliseconds. Standard operating procedure for a USR. Normal is to connect rather conservatively, test for a second or so, and then shift up one or two speeds.
