Subject: July Presentation - Creating Accessible Web Sites (fwd)
Hello listers,
Here is an announcement that our local NFB Chapter is doing with a local
computer userws group known as Salsa.net. The invited us to give a
lecture on making web sites accessible to the blind. WE here in
San Antonio are doing all we can to round up as many web masters
as we can to make them aware of our concerns. If you know of
anyon e who is a web master in the Greater San Antonio Area
please pass this information on to them so they can attend.
I am also going to talk to Mr. Fazich about having some adaptive
software installed so that the audience can have an idea of how
screen readers work, and what sheould read, but often don't, and
to whow them how sound design can allow us to enjoy all that a
well-planned, and accessible site can be enjoyed by the blind.

Subject: July Presentation - Creating Accessible Web Sites
Peter,
On Wednesday, July 16th 1997 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at the International
Conference Center (847 E. Hildebrand Ave. - corner 281 and Hildebrand) at
The University of the Incarnate Word, the San Antonio Chapter of the
Federation of the Blind will put on a presentation on "Creating Accessible
Web Sites" (how to create web pages that are user friendly to the blind).
This presentation will be part of the Technology Lecture Series sponsored
jointly by The University of the Incarnate Word http://www.uiw.edu and
Salsa.Net http://www.salsa.net . See:
http://www.fayfich.com/lecture_series.html for more information about the
lecture series.
All of these lectures are free and opened to the public. Previous lectures
have included:
San Antonio Netday Activities, The Digital Future of Television, and San
Antonio User Groups.
For each presentation I have created a web page with relevant links in
support of the lecture. I have not yet created the web page for your
presentation but I hope to have it up by early next week.
The lectues are held in the Auditorium of the International Conference
Center. This is a very nice facility that seats 175. For each presentation,
we have a computer running Windows 95 and Netscape and Explorer (3.0
versions) set up with an Internet connection and high quality projection
system. We also have a student assistant to work the equipment.
Also for this presentation I will make a special effort to personally
e-mail all of the web masters I know in the city and invite them to this
presentation. I hope that we can get the word out to web developers to
incorporate accessible design into their sites.
If you have any question, please contact me.
