JL> I live just a few thousand feet from Pager Hill, which

Hi Jim!
Wow, I thought I had it bad living about 1/2 mile from two VHF
paging transmitters and one UHF. You must be pulling your hair out.
What scanner are you using?
JL> I took care of the FM station by buying a Radio Shack FM trap,
JL> which works great.
As long as you don't want to receive any FM stations or 72 Mhz
"Mid-band" stuff, then that'll work pretty good.
JL> Now, I'd like to deal with the pager.
Wouldn't we all! :-)
JL> What do you recommend?
Buying a different house?? :-)
JL> A notch filter?
That is the best solution, but a decent one that will not attenuate
half the band will be expensive. They start at about $125.
JL> Can I put notch filters in line?
Sure.
JL> I've got my FM trap filter running on the line between my
JL> antenna and receiver. Can I put another filter in line?
You can series as many as you want, but be aware that each one will
cause as much as 3db insertion loss to ALL frequencies.
JL> Will a notch filter interfere with listening to other stations
JL> in the 150s? Virtually all of New Hampshire is public
JL> safetying in the 150s and I'm afraid I may not be able to hear
JL> them.
That is why you would have to buy a GOOD notch filter. Like one
from Microwave Associates. I have tried the Grove FT-5 filter, but
it attenuates a bunch of stuff that I don't want it to, and it's
notch is very wide and tends to drift, in addition to the fact that
it has those dang "F" connectors on it. Why they would put those on
a scanner accesory is beyond me.
JL> Any other solutions??
A good rifle aimed at the pager antenna might do it. :-)
Good luck.
73,
Mike
