Actually, it works now, sort of.  I can issue a NET VIEW \\samba_machine
and get a list of shares.  I can also issue a NET USE (etc.) and map a
drive letter to a share on the machine.
 
Oddly, attempting to list the shares from the Connections/Network/File and
Print Client Resourse Browser folders still gets a SYS0058.  Since I can
access the shares via the command line commands, I am not too concerned with
it.  ;)
