I liked your little essay.  You're exactly right.  Once Gene died, Berman and
the rest of his stupid friends hijacked Star Trek.  They say something to the
effect that Star Trek is appealing to a whole different crowd that was never
there before.  Yeah, it's a appealing to soap fans.  What are Voyager and
DSN rated right now compared to other shows?  At the dead bottom?  TOS did a
lot better than that in the late 60's when sci-fi wasn't nearly as big as it
is now.  If Voy and DSN weren't "Star Trek" and just a regular show they both
would have been canceled years ago.
