I have been running both ND7 and OD7.01 for awhile now, the former at
home and the latter at work. I have had the problem, but only under 2
conditions. First, when there is a virus present. Second, when running
software which does something 'illegal' or otherwise bypasses the proper
DOS API.
In the first case, a virus which was otherwise harmlessly residing on my
system under MS Dos (Junkie) threw ND's emm386 into a spin when I
installed ND7. It took awhile for me to work out that it must be a
virus, since I am fairly careful about that sort of thing. It turned
out to come from a disk I brough home from work, which seems to be not so
careful.
The second case, which probably only happened once or twice resulted in
me deleting said program/device drive/utility and not using it. All
my other common programs work fine; Robomail, Telix, NewDeal Publish
(Finally sent the registration off... awaiting NDO) WordPerfect 6.0 and
WFW 3.11.
Personally I have found ND7/OD7 much more stable that MS Dos
[ big shock :) ].
As for the virus thing, you may want to double check that one. The fact
that ODs emm386 doesn't get along well with viruses is a good thing in
my book, and points to tighter code with less 'loop holes'.
I use the stacker that comes with it, too, which should theoretically
make things more dodgy, but It hasn't skipped a beat.
