| subject: | NetComm smartmodem 288 |
G'Day, I'm looking for a great modem at a reasonable price and the NetComm Smartmodem 288 seems to be at the top of my list. From tests the 288D did very well, can I expect the 288 to perform as well? Can someone confirm if the 288 has voice capabilities? How the hell does a flash rom work. I know you get a file of BBS' or the net or something but how does the modem get the info and how can it upgrade itself to 33.6????? What are pple's overall views towards the 288? Would an 8 bit processor and data pump be any good with 33.6/V.34+ ? While we are on the subject. Can anyone recommend a good modem that has 33.6 or a free/cheap upgrade, 16 bit if they think 8 bit is no good (from previous question) with full faxing capabilities? Thanx!!!! Eric Ooms. ...
