Aha! That explains a lot, I'm not going mad after all! :-) Node 1 of the
BBS I run has an old 28.8K VFC Rockwell-based Dynalink (dont have the
model in front of me sorry) and I simply CANNOT get a V42bis connect to
it, instead I always get REL-MNP5. The modem I'm trying to ring it with
is a Dynalink 1414VQH-L. Every other BBS in town I try ringing, including
NODE2 of the same BBS, (which has a totally different GVC 14.4K) I get
LAPM-V42BIS connects.

And YET, other people have reported no problems getting a V42BIS connect
to it, and it makes OUTGOING V42BIS connects fine, although I havn't had
the opertunity to try an outgoing connect to my modem at home. (The BBS
is not at home, in case you were wondering)

This puzzles me a bit, and unfortunately, I dont have a manual for the
28.8K dynalink, so I'm a bit in the dark...any ideas? I can find out
the exact model numbers of the modems in question if that helps...(pull
them out of the BBS and look at the labels :) Oh, and all 3 modems are
internal...
