>Again on this theme. In the G-trek game Admiral Jerry Ryan LaSaille=20
(ret) maintains an old Constitution class ship at the El Nanth=20
spacedock. The USS Kongo NCC-1710. He bought his old ship when she was=20
demiled in the early 24th century.

>LaSaille holds monthly "press gangs" One can sign up for a
day cruise=20
as a member of the ships company wearing 23rd century uniforms on a=20
genuine 23rd century ship. A fun trip where Admirals can be yeoman and=20
technicians can be lieutenants. One does have to be qualified for the=20
part they play. If you are on the primary intermix board you are ON it,=20
no "play" about that part. The ship is real, the hands on nature
is real.

>This is a popular pastime with local starfleet and there are always more=20
calls for posts than room.

Interesting idea. I actually wrote a story where a group of young people
w= ere on an older
ship and they took it out for a cruise to see if going into space was
somet= hing that they
wanted to do. Unfortunately, something went wrong and they were left to fe= nd for
themselves until they could be rescued. It was not one of my finer efforts=
 and I wrote
it too soon after reading "Lord of the Flies."

Actually, I could imagine that if O'Brien and Bashir could relive the
Battl= e of Britain
in the holodeck, anybody could relive any history. If you're so inclined,
= you can relive
the Punic Wars one day, and then the next be on the deck of those old stars= hips
battling unseen Romulans in that war. This might not be popular on a stars= hip,
but it might be big-time entertainment on the planets. I'd imagine
public-= access holodecks
would be present everywhere, and historical re-enactments could be a big
pa= rt of the
entertainment available.
