I've heard hints that it's going to get into the schools -- the ongoing *real* urban crime :-( If so, having made my own discouraging foray into teacher training and Philadelphia public schools a few years ago, I'm going to be really interested in The Wire's take. Something tells me it will be short on (as you say) 60-minute solutions, and uplift a la Stand and Deliver or Music of the Heart... If you haven't read it, I think you'd really enjoy David Alvarez's book "The Wire: Truth be Told" -- much, much better than most "behind the scenes" books tied to TV series. Simon paid his reporter's dues getting to know Baltimore inside out, and then writer/director's dues on Homicide and The Corner. He really cares about how our cities live and die, has put together a cast and production team that cares... and it shows. BTW, Karen saw my comment about no single role as strong as Swearingen or Tony Soprano and asked: "What about Omar?!?" I decided not to pursue the topic :-) --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
