Hello Darin -

CA>> It appears to me that CPAN _sells_ code. That doesn't fall
CA>> into the category of 'sharing' the way I use the word.

DM> Where the heck do you get THAT idea? CPAN is completely
DM> free. Are you looking at www.cpan.org (not .com or .net or
DM> something else)?

www.cpan.com

You didn't have the presence of mind to specify and '.com' is
the most common designation in my universe.

CA>> Lately it seems more are selling their PERL and PHP code,
CA>> even just short pieces (snippets) of code and/or offering
CA>> to host it for those using freeservers or other ISPs who
CA>> are not allowed to install server-side apps. What is out

CA>> now. New stuff generally seems to be for sale.

DM>

DM> [ for the humour-impaired, that's me. ]

CA>> As such, I can only predict that users of either a PERL or
CA>> PHP forum will be hawking thier wares in various ways or
CA>> looking for contract work and that there will be little
CA>> 'sharing' going on. I suppose that type of forum has it's
CA>> uses for some but I wouldn't host it on a not-for-profit
CA>> website myself.

DM> Unfortunately, my opinion of your knowledge has not
DM> decreased any by this blatant display of unknowledge.

You over-react just a bit, don't you?

If you feel the need to direct people to CPAN (and you
obviously ARE aware there are several) then taking your little
fingers and typing the necessary ".org" in the message would
avoid misunderstandings. As I've said ".com" is the more common
URL and at ".com" all is for sale (as I said).

I'm not very impressed by YOUR attitude lately and could care
less how knowledgeable you THINK you are (this isn't the PERL
echo btw).
