}{ello All,
Well we just completed our Summer Camp for this year and to be frank I
elieve
it to be a major disappointment this year.
We had a total of five (5) boys attend. One stabbed himself with a knife in
the arm below the elbow, one got "asked" to leave for deliberately killing a
raccoon that wondered into the camp at night, one got a small sliver in his
eye, and one was removed for improperly filed medical form.
Only one boy completed a merit badge.
The only "bright" spot for this camp was that after 20+ years of eligibility,
I
FINALLY was tapped out to OA.
The problem to make it not look like a troop in disarray (although it does
border it) is that their is currently no sitting ScoutMaster and I as well as
one other ASM have been trying to keep things afloat and due to work
constraints, are relying on a prayer and a whisper that out committee
hurriedly
finds a replacement Scoutmaster. The troop has been without an acting
Scoutmaster since Jan. this year. That in itself is another story.
Thus the required paperwork for the medical form was not perused over
thoroughly and a boy had a medical form signed off for a physical in 1993
which
is beyond the three (3) years allowed by BSA.
I have been asked to step up but due to my commitment to the Cub Pack
(Cubmaster) and that I actually have no ties to the troop other than the love
of scouting, feel that a current parent or another ASM assume the position.
Although I am the only current certified SM as well as a CM in the troop, I
would prefer to take that position after my oldest son (1st yr. Webelo) comes
of scout age if need be.
comments or suggestions are welcomed to bring this troop in line with the
program. I have kept quiet for the most part for the above stated reason.
But
if something doesn't happen real soon, the troop is not or cannot make it
without a SM.
     Regards;
       John A. Etling
