    Probably not much help to you on this surname.  There were several KING 
families in Yancey COunty in 1850.  Really don't have any good local sources 
for dates prior to that.
   I would recommend the following for help on your KINGS and Wilkes Co NC in 
particular:
    1.Wilkes Genealogical Society, Inc.
        P. O. Box 1629
        North Wilkesboro, NC  28659
(Understand they have published a history about Wilkes County)
    2.Surry County Genealogical Society
     Box 997
   Dobson, NC  27017
(Wilkes Co was formed from Surry County in 1777)
    3.  N. C. Genealogical Society

   Raleigh, NC   27602
