Hello, mark. Friday March 04 2011 at 13:25, you wrote to NANCY BACKUS: ml> there might be a field that could be used to store the email address ml> but it would then require the use of an external tool to actually ml> locate and forward the netmails and private postoffice mails to ml> them... it is something i've been thinking about for several years ml> with nothing really satisfying rising to the surface :? Hmm, you gave me an idea, sir. In a few BBS packages-Telegard comes to my mind-you can modify the "user fields" to be anything you want. I remember when I was running TG that I did that by modifying one of the three "notes" fields in the user's record to hold the email address. Now what one could do, if they're crafty enough is this: write a program to capture the user's name from the dropfile field or even easier, just pull the user's name and email address from the BBS's userbase. Have it put the user's name and email address in a canned text message then have it sent off using an external program. Or, if you don't want the hassle, you could create a simple text file of all of your user's names with their corresponding email addresses. Have the program grab the username from the dropfile, match it to the name in the list and grap the matching email address, fix up a little email message and have it sent off using an external program. You could also just do what you've done but instead of the batch file magic, just have a program grab the username from the dropfile and use a program that will import a text message into a message base (I use SendMsgP by Pete Kvitek) to do the work. Another project to put on my list if someone doesn't beat me to it... :P Later, Sean ...
