Comment on crossovers:  Most do not work.  This is not to say that you are
doomed from the start.  Too many (Can you say Star Wars boys and girls?)
are out to prove that one setting or the other is far too cool for the
other setting.  Ergo, not respecting half the inspiration for the story, it
falls flat.  Other, (Trek/Buffy) really don't have concept that mesh.  Trek
is all about rational thought and dealing with the universe on that basis. 
Buffy says "the monsters are real."  I don't see much connection,
YMMV.

On the Gripping hand.  One of my favorite Trek books was a blatant
crossover with "Here come the Brides"  One of my favorite fan
stories was a ST/SW cross over that respected both sources, and had
something to say.  So the form is not without redemption.

Crossovers work bets when using cannon characters,  because then the focus
is on how the different people from the differnt shows inter-relate

One comment - the guy who wrote the ST/SW cross over was a better author
than Timothy Zhan
