The Vista Notebook came with a 160GB HDD that had 3 partitions on it.
A small proprietary partition, and the C: and D: both have 60GB+ .

The C: partition has 1GB Free, the D: still has a lot of Free space.

I bought a 1TB HDD, and I made a Backup with Acronis True Image (TI)
after reading Leo Notenboom's article "How hard is it to change a
laptop hard disk?"

He says to make a CD with backup rescue media from the TI program so
after I replace the HDD I can BOOT from the CD and Restore my Backup to
the larger HDD, and also to TEST the CD before replacing the HDD with
the new one.

When I BOOT from the CD I see
"cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge00:1c.3" .

The rescue media comes on the screen but when I select Restore,
I can't see the HDD I put the Backup on...Later I realized the Backup
is on a USB 3.0 Drive, so I plugged in a USB 2.0 drive and was able
to see it.

I guess that happened because my TI program was bought in 2007 long
before USB 3.0 came out and doesn't know anything about 3.0.

So now to make another TI Backup on a USB 2.0 HDD and try it again.

When I saw the Region 7 message on the screen, I thought that the
rescue media was bad.
After looking through some CD's I found one I had made for the Vista
box and one I had made for the XP box but both of those gave me that
message when it was loading.

Today I tried the set of 11 Floppy disks I also made long ago.
After the 11th disk finished I saw the message again.

A Search I did had the Phillipine Islands and several schools in the
Results.
My notebook is set up for the Eastern Time Zone, so I wouldn't think
P.I. had anything to do with it.

Can anyone shed some light on why I see the message? Thanks.

Maybe by next week I will have the new HDD installed and used Disk
Management on it after the Restore.

It sure has been fun the last couple of days here.
