| subject: | Re: Vatican: Faithful Should Listen to Science |
From: Ellen K. Everything G-d does is good. However, there is good in a revealed way (the crops have rain) and good in a concealed way (drought). Imagine a people who live in a jungle with no exposure to the modern scientific world. They have developed some simple tools. They eat plants that grow in the jungle and have also learned how to kill animals for meat and fur, using sharpened rocks or sticks. Now imagine one of these people suddenly finds himself in the operating room of a modern hospital, as an observer. When he sees the surgeon cutting the patient, he will think he is killing him, but in fact the surgeon is saving the patient's life. We are like that jungle person, and I certainly include myself. I certainly don't immediately see good when I think about 9/11, but I trust that at some point in the future the good will be revealed. Some would already say 9/11 was good because it woke up the world to militant Islamism.
