subject: no answer vs failure

I would the Netcomm M34F to distinguish between a call that
has produced an answer, but no connect (modem negotiation
problem, or I've called a voice number, etc etc etc), and a
call that has just rung out, ie just RINGING detected.

Basically, because I am happy to retry in the latter case, but
I am NOT happy to retry in the former case. But since my modem
returns "NO CARRIER" for both situations, I cannot tell the
difference.

I have read the manual, and was a bit hopeful at the "NO ANSWER"
response code, but that deals with a completely different type
of call.

BFN. Paul.
