Tom,
TW>My Dad learned CW in the late 20's while in the Marine Corps.
Before the FCC removed the CW requirement for ham radio licenses in
2007, I asked a local ham what his secret was to learning Morse Code. He
replied "I learned all the dirty words first". I laughed, and noted
"Well, you can't say them on ham radio...but if it helps you to remember
the characters, more power to you".
A club out of Dallas, Texas, was doing a CW class on their Echolink
node awhile back...and the first 4 letters they taught formed an
expletive. :P But, when you looked at the dots and dashes, it made
perfect sense.
Nowadays, people are learning CW because they WANT to...NOT because
they HAVE to.
