Hello Sean.,

-=> Quoting Sean Dennis to All <=-

 SD> Hello, All.
   >
SD> Once again, a conversation about making BBSing something that it isn't
SD> has reared its head in this echo. I don't understand why it's so damn
SD> difficult to see that many of us have been BBSing long before the World
SD> Wide Web was invented and we continue to participate in this hobby
SD> simply because we like it.

I for one agree with you. Before the Internet hit this area, there
were 30 plus, each with it's own character and benefits.

A BBS was a community, it was local...it was local users meeting weekly
and it was fun and helpful.

When Internet came, they all disappeared, and lost support as users
were convinced the Internet was better. I think it was cold.
A rude awaking in many ways.

SD> We, the BBS community, are a dying breed and this is not lost on us.
SD> For those of you who can't understand why we still do what we do,
SD> perhaps you need to just move on and become one of the faceless
 SD> participants on the Internet.
 SD> Later,
 SD> Sean

Amateur Radio , has also it's radio BBSes, and since the Internet came
to the area of the BBS, that station has gone off ... Many today worldwide
hang on via Mail forwarding via the Internet.

Packet as it is called, is a dieing mode, and the nails are in the coffin
for Amateur Radio's Packet Radio Network.

OK ... so if all the BBSes in the world disappear, then all is left is
long distance dialups to escape the new threatened Internet laws, and
monitoring us... then so be it.

I love the BBS. I love QWKmail to the BBS, and meeting old users
I knew on the BBS here .... when I was a sysop.

The funny thing, is Internet and manufacturers have made it necessary
it seems to me, to pay out incredible amounts for new computers and
operating systems, just to get on the Internet. New prices way too
much for me on a medical pension to be innvolved in a BBS, as the program
when quoted...just floored me.

There is no longer that solid core of users, that appreciate the work
of the sysop! It is usually his money for the system, and expenses
incurred with operating, and let it go down if he or she is sick
well the phone rinks...all about the BBS...not the sysop. Who cares.

I say that, as thats what happend in an area in UK, served by a great
BBS and it's super Sysop. Sick...who cared. When he died recently
then they cared...but NO ONE took over the BBS.

Sorry about this Sean ... but I love the BBS scene. I really wish
we could return to pre-Internet years, and well if they all now
want to control it etc... WE might get the chance to do this again
which will tick'em off, as they will not be able to sit online
monitoring us ....Sounds like more Dialup BBS laws to be made if
they do this.

thanks for your efforts

Pete
