One of our local stations in Detroit picked the mayoral race winner early
last night around 9:30 pm.
Next election they may use a new polling organization as the announced
'winner' lost.
Their competitors are now leading off their newscasts with a 'we may have
been late but we did pick the correct winner'
It seems that the major polling organizations were still using exit and
call polling - a leftover from the punch card days and it appears not that
reliable. One small polling group ( led by a retired newspaperman and part
time college teacher ) here got the results correct as they used key
precinct totals that are now available with the paper ballot machines.
