I use one tool... ant. :-)  Which, of course, calls tons of other
tools under it.  If you want to start with a really big, heavy
environment and strip away what you don't need... you can look here:

The tools I use are all very Java-centric, and it sounds like you
might not even have Java installed... so you'd have to go ahead and
install that too while you're at it.
