Nah... Because he's a lawyer, and because he likes to make
sweeping generalizations... It's to be expected that SOME
women will attempt to use this very real issue merely as a
wedge to obtain whatever advantages they can...  Human
nature...

Well, let's see... Starting in junior high, I was supposed 
to be a tough guy, so I either had to fight to prove I was 
"a man", or be taunted as being a sissy, fairy, etc... 
Later (not so much these days) I became draftable and was 
eligible to die for my country... Throughout this period, I
was brought up to treat women with more respect than men,
to pay their way on dates, and to "take care of" my family
after marrying.  Along with all THESE privileges, I ALSO 
got an increased incidence of heart disease, stroke, high
blood pressure, etc, and a considerably shorter life
expectancy....  What other privileges did you have in mind?

Which is unfair, and based upon the same kind of archaic
traditions I was brought up against as I grew...

I get the same thing, occasionally, from some working
women... It seems a bit strange, but I give them the
benefit of the doubt that there is nothing in the term
which intends offense....

That's certainly true, unless maybe he was gay, but his
remark may not have been intended as being belittling or
demeaning; that you took it that way does not mean that it
was so intended....

Yep... While college men do some summer work in my district
cutting weeds, digging, etc in the hot sun, the women are
forced to work inside in the air conditioning doing mimeo, 
etc instead....

Sure they are... For the same reason, women are preferentially
hired in engineering and scientific positions in industry....
It's called encouraging diversity...

One reason is, of course, that the working lifetime is 40 
years or more, so many of the existing executives came out 
of school in the 50's, and there were more of them than 
women (and they were indoctrinated in the 40's mode of 
thinking)... These executives now do the hiring, and do so 
on the basis of the "old ways" - They are familiar with men
in these positions, and evaluate based on the patterns they
recognize.  Women do things differently, and "different" is
not valued very much generally... I think things will change
over time, but the time frame is likely to be decades...

Men are poorly trained, or perhaps simply not inclined to
be "nuturing"...  Primary school involves a lot of 
"mothering" ("fathering" too).  Since it's valuable,
presumeably, to have father figures too, it's only 
reasonable that males be sought after in primary grades.
Otoh, women are ACTIVELY recruited in my high school in
the areas of science and math for exactly the SAME (but
opposite sex) reason.
