I wonder whether marijuana would be a gateway drug if it were
decriminalized.  I mean, part of the reason it's a gateway drug is that
currently the person who sells marijuana is probably also selling other
illegal drugs and like any good salesperson tries to entice his customers
into sampling all his products.
