I was listening to an interview with Little Steven Van Zandt on the early
days in NJ before the 'E' Street Band, and he was talking about how
everybody had a band post-Beatles; all jamming and garage-banding and so
on, and then as career choices arose even the better musicians took them;
it was that kind of suburban-Jersey one-factory town life.  If a career
offered, working with your father in the family business, working at the
plant, anything (even crime could be a career option, he joked, except
there was no big presence out in the sticks), you took it.  The bands that
survived were made up of the guys that were left, and had no choices.
