By FidoNet mailer do you mean the part which carries out the 
communication or the part that works with the mail itself?

When Windows went from 16 to 32-bits, the (external) communication 
paradigm changed.  If the difficulty you're having involves connecting 
to a BBS then it's this paradigm shift that's the culprit.  If the 
difficulty involves viewing/replying/etc.... well, can you explicitly 
describe where you're system is having difficulty?
