Californians are possibly unique in one respect, which is that although the
state is registered majority Democrat, and usually votes Democrat, people
do get their dander up when they sense they are being manipulated. That's
how Proposition 13 passed and how Gray Davis got voted out of office.

A very big mistake the Republican party has made here is not courting the
Hispanic vote. Hispanic culture is very much more oriented to "family
values" than to the Democrats' positions. We had a terrific possible
candidate to run for the Senate, Rosario Marin -- female, Hispanic,
bootstrap life story, was mayor of a small city here, then US Treasurer,
but no, they had to run a gray white male. Sheesh.
