Skipping the politics  and trying for a good analogy, the theory
of gravity is like having a 6-inch ruler.  Fine for measuring things up to
a certain point, and even pretty accurate, but when you measure longer and
longer things inaccuracies creep in and it is obvious you need a new ruler.

Hey-- there's your politics-- we need a new ruler!
