The problem of differentiation of species is an old one, and always
arguable. I would argue that there are enough differences between the two
(antlers, size, coloring, social structure) to differentiate them.

The ability to interbreed and to create viable/fertile offspring then
becomes just one part of determining a different species. IMO, this makes
Gary B's definition unworkable.
