Well this is a little bit of a problem for me. My kids act great everywhere
else, but home. Any way knowing your teachers experience I have a few
questions.
First off, in MI we have to teach Grammar. Jonathon my 11 year old is in
5th grade. He was retained in first grade due to his ADHD and learning
problems.
This year we are doing subjects and predicates. He can find subject
llright
and predicates, but we are learning about will and other words being part of
the predicate (if I am not explaining this right it is because I am
exhausted).
He just is having a hugh problem with it. I thought about getting Grammar
Key, but am wondering if this program could be too difficult for him?
Another thing, my children are getting to the point of wanting me to explain
too much. If I don't they protest completely. It's like giving the answer
away. I am trying to teach them to think for themselves and ask themselves
questions to find the answer. This is difficult, because some of them need
help while I know that Sara can do it on her own. She is very bright. She
is getting really too upset if she doesn't get them all right. If she
isses
one question she whines and cries to heaven's end. Jeremy is ADHD/ODD and
it is a real struggle. He gets upset too if he misses something. I always
give them a chance to correct any answers if they are wrong. My theory is
that it is more important to learn not how many you got right. I was using
a grading system of A B and T. T for Try so I can remember we need to work
on something. They want me to use this, but I see a difficulty with their
grades (Competition). I have explained over and over again how different
each one of them are and how one may need more help than the other one, but
then they seem to get jealous. So now I am in a constant struggle day after
day. Talking out of turn, whining, throwing temper tantrums. I am not
giving
up and I know it will be hard until I get educated myself, but any advice on
order would be greatly appreciated.
I am building a computer for their very own. It will have all the tools
necessary for writing, dictionary, encyclopedia and such. I want them
in a relaxed atmosphere, but they are trying to get out of hand.
HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!
Regina
... ARRRRRGGGHHH!!!! ... Tension breaker, had to be done.
