I love science, but I haven't contributed anything to it - I'm not a
scientist, I haven't done any original research, and I haven't donated
anything to science.

Unless you have contributed to science you are not one of the people that I
was worried might be driven away from science. I'm talking about kids who
are making a career decision. Bright people who are wondering whether they
should do Law or Science. Another 20 years of the current trend and I
imagine that the centre of science will have shifted from the US to China
or wherever.
