You are closer to a plant than you'd like to believe.

What I do find fun is that while many of the basic processes are the same
from fly to human, some have the same dna & thus proteins but do
radically different things & they can track (with the advent of
genomics) the path from what a bit of dna & the proteins produced do in
a fly through various others lifeforms to humans.
