I am not worried about shooting women and children to preserve my
food supply Frank. For one thing, unlike your dead friend, I have
another use- the 300 lbs of oats and corn will probly feed my new
filly through the winter.
If I and my food stash get found after an economic collapse, it'll
be by some guy with enough weapons and desperation to get here. In
any case, I was born on a farm, got my first gun at 12, and have a
lotta experience with taking life. Not something I enjoy doing, a
fool takes pleasure in it, but a prudent man sees the necessity of
it. I don't know any vegetarians that raise pigs, and if we all
were, pigs would become an endangered species.
I an not the ordinary wingnut with a Biblical apocalyptic vision.
I see deranged zealots with powerful weapons that they may choose
to use to destroy a global technocracy they cannot control. I do
not see the government taking any steps to ensure my future in a
disaster like that, so I try to do what I can for myself.
FM> My serious question is - what value or meaning does
FM> "survivel" have in the situation envisioned by a Howard Ruff or one of
FM> the others?
I dont know mr Ruff, but can guess at the situation. My excuse in
taking the life of any who threaten me, is that in such a chaotic
collapse of law and order, those who will kill me for it will die
anyway, only later. Unlike me, they know guns but they do not
know a damn thing about gardening, and will starve the next year.
Perhaps you have already gleaned from our posts that I have tried
to construct a system of values that crosses several boundaries
not usually allowed. Thus we see the businessmen be perfect in
their predation, and perfect in their practice of an altuistic
form of religion. I don't advocate either extreme, and suggest a
study of Neitzsche for a fair understanding of both.
I value my own existence as a possible tool to unravel for some
future the shortsightedness of both materialism and escatologic
goals of the religions we see practiced.
