An excellent attitude, except I think you mean that we should continue TRYING to understand the universe, and we will figure out more, but we are almost certainly never going to understand it all, so there will be some unpredicatable events. I think people here have tired of my lectures on evolution, so I will only briefly point out that humans are intelligent enough to predict an eclipse only because we acquired intelligence for other purposes (e.g. learning to communicate vocally was very useful, and gradual increases in intelligence that aided such communication would be rewarded in each generation).
